About the role
Patient Care
Experienced Associate Veterinarian | Skeet Club Veterinary Hospital
- Salary: $130,000–$150,000 base plus ProSal
- Sign-On Bonus + Relocation Assistance: Up to $40,000 combined
- Schedule: 3-to-5 days per week, with a planned every-third-Saturday rotation
- Location: 1578 Skeet Club Road, High Point, NC 27265
Skeet Club Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced small animal veterinarian who enjoys general practice, routine surgery, and building lasting relationships with clients and their pets. This opening is exclusively at our Skeet Club location in High Point. You will join a seasoned team that values thoughtful medicine, teamwork, and respect for every role.
The Role
You will care for dogs and cats through preventive visits, sick appointments, selected urgent cases, and routine soft tissue surgery. Appointments are generally 30 minutes, giving you time to examine patients, explain recommendations, and make a plan with each family.
- Dermatology with depth. Approximately 30%–40% of cases involve ears and skin. We value cytology, clear treatment plans, client education, and follow-through.
- Selected urgent care. Work-ins may include vomiting, diarrhea, breathing concerns, limping, dog bites, cat abscesses, and lacerations. Treat appropriate cases in-house and refer when a patient needs more.
- Routine surgery with referral support. Perform spays, neuters, mass removals, enucleations, and laceration repairs. A visiting specialist handles orthopedics and advanced dental surgery. Our medical director, Dr. Ashley Kimery, handles dentistry, so dental experience is welcome but not required.
Clinical Tools and Support
- Equipment for daily practice: Digital radiography, ultrasound, an in-house IDEXX laboratory, a monitored surgical suite, and a dedicated anesthesia recovery area.
- Dental care with room to grow: Skeet Club has one dental station with digital dental radiography and a high-speed drill. A new dental machine is on the way, and the planned hospital renovation includes a new dental suite.
- An opportunity to use endoscopy: An endoscope is on site for a doctor interested in using it or developing that skill.
- Rehabilitation on the horizon: Dr. Kimery is working toward certification in rehabilitation and physical therapy, which she hopes to complete by summer 2027. The goal is to offer those services in-house afterward.
- An experienced support team: Our approximate support staff to doctor ratio is 2:1. Assistants help with patient care, while technician appointments cover appropriate services such as injections, blood draws, nail trims, and blood pressure checks.
A Schedule That Respects Your Time
A four-day week is the starting point, and we can discuss schedules of three to five days based on your preferences and the hospital’s coverage needs. Appointments begin at 8:30 a.m. each day and are scheduled for 30 minutes.
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: First appointment at 8:30 a.m.; last appointment at 4:30 p.m.; doctors generally finish by 5:30 p.m. A two-hour midday block includes lunch and callbacks.
- Wednesday: First appointment at 8:30 a.m.; last appointment at 1:30 p.m.; doctors generally finish by 2:00 p.m.
- Saturday: First appointment at 8:30 a.m.; last appointment at 11:30 a.m.; doctors generally finish by 12:00 p.m. The planned rotation is every third Saturday.
- After hours: No on-call duty, overnight hospitalized patients, or overnight shifts.
The Team and Our Approach to Care
Skeet Club is a close-knit team with loyal clients and colleagues who have served the hospital for 17 to 20 years. People share knowledge, step in to help, and make room for fun while taking patient care seriously. We hold team meetings, support continuing education for staff, and celebrate milestones together.
We lead with strong medical recommendations and work with clients on appropriate alternatives when circumstances call for them. Our doctors explain options without judgment, collaborate on difficult cases, and respect the experience of the support team. Dr. Kimery values a veterinarian who enjoys helping pets and leads by example.
Benefits and Partnership
Eligible full-time doctors receive:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance and retirement benefits
- Up to 16 days of PTO; the hospital closes for major holidays
- A $2,500 continuing education allowance and 4 CE days
- Support for North Carolina licensing, DEA, professional memberships, and liability coverage
- A 20% pet-care discount and uniform allowance
Compensation and benefit eligibility for other schedules would be discussed individually.
Through Veterinary Practice Partners, more than 260 partners co-own practices across 200 locations, with support in operations, marketing, and finance. Practice ownership interest at Skeet Club is available for discussion.
Who Will Thrive Here
You have at least 2 years of clinical experience and can manage a GP caseload and routine surgery with confidence. You stay calm when a work-in changes the day, communicate clearly with clients, include the team, and know when to refer. An interest in dermatology, urgent care, or endoscopy would be valuable. Most of all, you want to know your clients and follow their pets’ care over time.
Why High Point
High Point is part of North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad, near Greensboro and Winston-Salem. It offers restaurants, shopping, schools, and outdoor activities with a community feel. Raleigh and Charlotte are accessible for trips, while the mountains and coast offer longer getaways.
Requirements
- DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary institution
- Valid North Carolina veterinary license or eligibility to obtain one
- At least 2 years of clinical experience preferred
- Confidence with routine soft tissue surgery, sound referral judgment, and collaborative communication
About Skeet Club Veterinary Hospital
Skeet Club is a small animal hospital in High Point with three exam rooms, a dedicated treatment area, an isolation room, and a quiet space for hospitalized cats. Separate entrance and exit doors and a spacious lobby give pets and clients room to settle in. We use Fear Free techniques to help make visits less stressful.
Across Skeet Club and our nearby sister hospital, Total Care Veterinary Hospital, our 3-doctor team includes 2 full-time practice partners—one of whom, Dr. Ashley Kimery, is also the medical director—and a part-time veterinarian. 2 long-standing relief doctors provide additional coverage. We are adding an experienced doctor at Skeet Club to meet client demand.
Our team welcomes people who bring their own personalities to work. Colleagues enjoy teaching one another and occasionally spend time together outside the hospital. We also have a “say yes” mentality: we look for ways to help clients when they need us while managing the schedule so doctors and staff can sustain the work. Doctors have clinical autonomy and use a spectrum of care to meet clients where they are.
Our community ties include more than 20 years of work with the High Point Police Department and Randolph County K9 unit. This position is based solely at Skeet Club.
We are dedicated to establishing a culture that celebrates all forms of diversity and allows us to be an inclusive service provider in this community.
