J.S. Held is actively seeking an Expert Witness / Consultant / Senior Consultant for its Construction Advisory Team, specializing in claims and construction dispute resolution, based in Madrid. This position is for a professional who has a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a leading international contracting organisation or an owner organisation with an international project portfolio.
Candidates with varying levels of experience and responsibility will be considered.
The Candidate will primarily be involved in delivering dispute resolution services and contract management/claims consulting to our clients.
An individual is required who can show initiative, perform advanced data research, manage client relations and deliver to tight deadlines. This role will involve frequent client interaction and will require the successful candidate to prepare and make presentations to communicate results. It is preferred that the individual has previous experience in providing consultancy services on substantial and/or complex disputes in quantum and/or delay related matters. The candidate may be supporting lead experts in formal dispute processes or even lead some depending on expertise.  They should be able to demonstrate experience in writing expert reports to a high level and have strong industry experience, as well as attention to detail.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will have a good academic record and be able to demonstrate how they have distinguished themselves within their chosen field.  They will be expected to work collaboratively with the team and deliver commissions under high pressure and to the client’s satisfaction. We expect the individual shall be able to contribute to business development through networking and marketing activities if that is his/her desire.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and/or review claims in construction and engineering projects;
- Implement and develop contract management processes in projects;
- Take part in preparation of expert witness reports;
- Select appropriate analysis methodologies with guidance of manager, assist in commission reviews and identifying claim strategy;
- Demonstrate ability to deliver concise and compelling event chronologies, draft completed sections of Claim Reports;
- Review facts, correspondence and project control records to prepare quantifications of claims and/or deliver forensic delay analysis activities;
- Peer review, critique and edit work involved in commission;
- Provide real time feedback on work product and other activities to allocated resources and upstream to manager, ensure allocated Commission elements are completed on time and on budget.
Required
- A recognized degree in engineering, quantity surveying, construction management or similar from a leading university;
- Minimum 3-10 years on-site or project construction experience with engineering or construction firms, or a construction claim/dispute firm;
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Ability to sporadic travel;
- Familiarity with claims and/or expert witness work, or exposure to arbitration processes is preferred.
