The Temporary Groundskeeper supports the daily maintenance and appearance of campus grounds. This position performs a variety of landscape maintenance, turf care, cleanup, and general groundskeeping activities under the direction of Landscape Services leadership and crew leaders.
The position requires dependable attendance, the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and a willingness to perform physically demanding work. Assignments may vary based on seasonal priorities, campus events, weather conditions, and operational needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general landscape maintenance including trimming, pruning, weeding, edging, mulching, planting, and bed maintenance.
- Assist with mowing, string trimming, blowing, and other turf maintenance activities.
- Perform campus cleanup including litter and debris removal and general site cleanup.
- Assist with planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, and other landscape materials.
- Operate hand tools, power equipment, and grounds maintenance equipment appropriate to assigned work.
- Assist with loading, unloading, transporting, and distributing landscape materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Support Landscape Services crews with seasonal projects and other grounds maintenance activities as assigned.
- Assist with preparation and cleanup associated with campus events and other high-priority activities.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged landscape materials, equipment problems, or other maintenance concerns to the appropriate crew leader or supervisor.
- Follow established safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.
- Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Perform other grounds maintenance duties as assigned based on departmental and seasonal needs.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscape practices preferred.
- Ability to safely operate common landscape tools and equipment or willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and complete assigned work with appropriate attention to quality.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and members of the campus community.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to adapt to changing daily work assignments and priorities.
- Ability to recognize potential safety concerns and equipment problems and report them appropriately.
- Ability to perform work independently after receiving appropriate instruction.Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift materials and equipment associated with grounds maintenance.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other seasonal conditions.
- Ability to safely perform repetitive tasks and operate grounds maintenance equipment for extended periods.
- Some assignments may require work outside normal business hours based on weather, campus events, or operational needs.
- Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, horticulture, turf care, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Familiarity with operating commercial landscaping equipment is a plus.
- Willingness to learn, develop new skills, and gain hands-on experience.
- Enjoys working outdoors and contributing to the care and maintenance of outdoor spaces.

Hiring Pay Range: $17.50/Hour
