About the role

SolidWorksMechanical EngineeringProject ManagementCADManufacturing
Mechanical Engineer The Mechanical Engineer is a key technical contributor driving G&G’s mechanical product development from concept through production. This is a hands-on opportunity to join a fast-growing, innovative team where your expertise in mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and product validation directly shapes G&G product design and reliability. G&G products operate in some of the harshest environments in industry, including high-pressure washdown, chemical exposure, outdoor weather, and vibration. As a proactive problem solver, the Mechanical Engineer thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where priorities can shift quickly and decisions are made close to the product. Practical and execution oriented, you drive mechanical design from the first prototype through production release and into the field. Who will I report to?  VP of Engineering What roles am I accountable for? Mechanical Design & Product Development (45%) - Design mechanical components and products in SOLIDWORKS, including enclosures, heatsinks, housings, mounting hardware, wiring harnesses, and accessories; maintain all CAD data. - Design for injection molding, polymer and metal extrusion, sheet metal, and 3D printing. - Select and validate engineering plastics, seals, and fastening methods for harsh and chemically aggressive environments. - Design thermal paths and heatsinks for high-power LED products. - Build early-phase prototypes and proof-of-concept designs; iterate quickly based on test results. - Create, execute, and document mechanical validation plans. - Support UL certification and IP rating compliance on new product development. - Apply GD&T and tolerance analysis to ensure designs are robust and production ready. Manufacturing Integration & Cross Functional Collaboration (25%) - Own BOM and drawing accuracy for assigned products. - Work directly with molders, extruders, and fabrication vendors on tooling, first article inspection, and design changes. - Validate incoming parts and assemblies against design specifications. - Design assembly fixtures and jigs to support production at volume. - Forensic analysis of mechanical field returns and internal defects; drive corrective actions. - Partner with manufacturing on first-run production builds. - Establish mechanical test methods and production acceptance criteria. - Support Sales and Marketing with product drawings, renderings, and technical guidance as needed. Product Ownership & Project Management (20%) - Own assigned products from concept through production and into the field. - Keep a clear view of where your projects stand, including work happening with vendors, procurement, and other teams. - Look ahead for risks and delays and work with the team to find a path forward, whether that’s a second source, a revised plan, or escalating early. - Make practical calls to keep projects moving, such as expediting parts or building extra prototypes when it saves time. - Keep stakeholders informed as plans, dates, or results change. - Follow through on requests from other teams and keep them updated on progress. - Partner with the Engineering Program Manager on planning and tracking. Team G&G (10%) - Live and reinforce G&G core values. - Contribute as a key member of the G&G Engineering team, fostering a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement. What does success look like? Success in this role means delivering durable, reliable mechanical designs that perform in the field and make it to production on schedule. You own your products from the first sketch through field performance, keep the team informed as work progresses, and drive problems to resolution. How do we show up every day? - Positive Attitude - We focus on solutions not obstacles. We show gratitude and appreciation. We create an environment that’s uplifting. - Above and Beyond - We consistently exceed expectations. We care deeply for others. We choose what’s right over what’s easy. - Always Learning - We constantly seek out knowledge and new ideas. We challenge the status quo with critical thinking. We solve problems through learning and innovation. - Gets It Done (GSD) - We are fast, focused, and efficient. We stay nimble and adapt quickly. We take ownership to make things happen. - Detail Oriented - We approach our work with intention. We take pride in doing things right the first time. We lead with quality in everything we do. What will I need to succeed? - Must align with our Core Values. - A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent demonstrated experience in mechanical product design. - 3 plus years of hands-on experience designing mechanical products and taking them through prototyping into production is essential. - Experience working directly with manufacturing suppliers and vendors on tooling, DFM, first articles, design changes, and production readiness.  - Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS for part, assembly, and drawing creation. - Strong hands-on skills: building and testing your own prototypes, and working comfortably on the production floor. - Experience with injection molded part design and engineering plastics is a plus. - Experience designing sealed or IP-rated enclosures is a plus. - Experience with thermal design for electronics or LED products is a plus. - Experience working through UL certification (1598 or similar) is a strong plus.
