THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re looking for a People Operations Manager to make the day-to-day experience of working at BranchLab better. You’ll be the person employees and managers can count on for a smooth start, clear answers, accurate People processes, and well-run workplaces in Boulder and New York City.
This is a hands-on role with room to build. You’ll own the details and improve the way we work. That could mean building an onboarding process that doesn’t leave things to chance, fixing a recurring employee issue, or making a shared process easier for managers to use. You’ll partner with our Finance & People leadership on policy decisions and sensitive matters, bringing employee and operational context and helping put decisions into practice.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
PEOPLE OPERATIONS AND EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE
· Own onboarding and offboarding. Design and put checklists and workflows into practice so paperwork, system access, orientation, manager handoffs, and departures happen reliably. Follow up with new hires to catch issues early.
· Prepare and review payroll inputs with Finance and our PEO. Run open enrollment and day-to-day benefits and 401(k) administration, working with providers to resolve employee issues.
· Be a reliable first stop for employee questions. Resolve what you can, bring in the right person when needed, and use recurring questions and feedback to improve the experience.
· Coordinate performance review cycles, including timelines, communications, and manager follow-through.
WORKPLACE AND CULTURE
· Run day-to-day operations in our Boulder office and coordinate workplace needs in New York City, including vendors, supplies, and improvements within approved budgets.
· Plan team events and employee gatherings end to end, from logistics and communications to vendors and budgets. Learn what works and improve the next one.
SYSTEMS AND RISK MANAGEMENT
· Keep Rippling as the source of truth for employee data and maintain complete, accurate personnel records. Process changes such as new hires, promotions, leaves, and departures, and keep People-related SOC 2 evidence organized.
· Coordinate required employee training, workplace notices and postings, and related recordkeeping across our locations. Track deadlines, flag gaps, and work with Finance & People leadership, our PEO, and counsel to confirm and meet applicable requirements.
· Lead internal operations projects from start to finish: define the problem, make a plan, coordinate the people and deadlines involved, and make sure the solution works in practice.
QUALIFICATIONS
· 3+ years in People, workplace, business, or another hand-on operations role where you owned important day-to-day work.
· Strong project management. You can make a plan, keep people aligned, and carry a project through to completion.
· You’re highly organized and detail-oriented. You keep records accurate, stay ahead of deadlines, and close the loop on employee requests without needing reminders.
· A track record of making a process or experience better. You can explain what wasn’t working, what you changed, and how you knew it helped.
· Care for the employee experience, clear communication, and sound judgment with confidential information.
· Comfort learning new systems and unfamiliar subject matter. You’re ready to get up to speed on benefits, payroll, leave, and other People processes, and know when to bring in Finance & People leadership or an external expert.
· Willingness to handle the practical side of workplace operations, including vendors, budgets, office needs, and events.
· Experience with an HR system such as Rippling, a PEO, benefits administration, or supporting employees across multiple states is a plus.
