The Streaming & Media Technology Director holds full technical accountability for the platforms that deliver Euroleague Basketball’s streaming and media proposition across its competitions. EuroLeague TV (ELTV) and the OTT platform behind it are the centre of the role, supported by the media asset management environment, the automated content generation stack, the content publishing and distribution workflows, and the historical media archive.
The role owns these systems end to end: technical architecture and roadmap, integrations, lifecycle, vendor governance, service quality, content protection and compliance enforcement. It leads the major technical programmes affecting the streaming platform, including the onboarding of third-party content and distribution to partner platforms,
ensuring the platform performs reliably across the competitions’ calendar.
Scope boundaries. The role owns the streaming and media technology stack and its technical roadmap, including the streaming platform’s own content management backend. It holds the technical relationship with platform, content and distribution partners, but not the commercial one: contract negotiation and commercial terms sit outside the role. It does not own content rights acquisition, editorial curation, pricing and packaging, promotional planning, CRM or paid acquisition, nor the marketing technology stack (web and app CMS, CRM, identity and single sign-on, consent, digital analytics, tag management, ad tech and app stores), which sits with Marketing Technology and which this role integrates with. It works in close coordination with Marketing Technology, Technical Product Management, Data, ICT and Systems & Security Operations, alongside external platform, production and content partners.
Key Responsibilities:Streaming platform (OTT)
- Own the technical architecture and roadmap of the OTT platform, covering ingest, encoding and packaging, playout, CDN, DRM and playback, metadata, and delivery across web, apps, connected TV and console environments.
- Hold the day-to-day technical relationship with the streaming platform provider, including release planning, roadmap alignment, escalation and structured service reviews, and review deliverables against defined technical requirements.
- Lead major platform programmes end to end: requirements definition, integration design, entitlement and user data migration, environment and release management, acceptance testing, cutover and go-live.
- Implement and maintain the technical configuration that supports the commercial proposition defined by the commercial and product functions, including subscription and entitlement setup, checkout and payment integrations, and in-stream advertising on the streaming platform.
- Own playback quality, availability and performance standards across markets and devices, and drive continuous improvement based on real usage, platform telemetry and support data.Content acquisition and distribution
- Own the technical onboarding of content from external rights holders, including the ingest of their live feeds, archives and metadata into the catalogue, and the implementation of each licensor’s content protection and delivery requirements.
- Own the technical delivery of content to channel stores, aggregators and partner platforms, both as a subscription channel and as content supplied to third-party services, meeting each partner’s technical specifications and keeping entitlements, metadata and availability in sync.
- Maintain a repeatable technical onboarding process for new content and distribution partners, so each new agreement can be implemented predictably and without bespoke rework.Media asset management and content systems
- Own the media and digital asset management environment, including asset ingest, metadata models and taxonomy, rights and usage metadata, permissions, and automated, traceable asset flows between production, the media systems and the platforms that consume them.
- Own the automated content generation stack and its integrations with competitions and production feeds, including publishing rules and delivery into the OTT platform and the channels that consume it.
- Own the technical content publishing model within the streaming platform and its content management backend, covering scheduling, metadata, rails and homepage configuration, VOD ingest and continuous channel delivery, and drive the automation of recurring tasks currently performed manually.Integrations and measurement
- Own the technical delivery of integrations between the streaming and media platforms and the wider ecosystem: game centre and live schedule, broadcaster and club assets from the Competition Engine, the identity and single sign-on layer, partner and sponsor activations on livestreams, and affiliate partners.
- Implement on the streaming and media platforms the event taxonomy and tracking framework defined with Marketing Technology and Data, govern its implementation with vendors, and ensure the data required by the unified data platform is reliably and accurately emitted.Operations and service quality
- Define and maintain the operational protocols for the streaming platform within the Game Night Data & Tech Desk, including pre-match verification, severity classification and escalation paths across all competitions.
- Own the tracking and follow-up of all streaming incidents through to resolution, with critical incidents addressed in real time and non-critical ones through the standard support process, followed by structured post-incident review, and convert recurring support cases into technical fixes.Rights, entitlements and compliance
- Ensure correct implementation and continuous verification of geo-restrictions, territorial holdbacks, blackout rules and market-specific commentary restrictions, validated ahead of each season and whenever agreements change.
- Own entitlement and access management across the platform backend, including VIP and universal access for clubs and staff, periodic access audits, and pre-season support coordination with ICT.
- Ensure legal and T&C requirements are correctly reflected on the platform, and that the consent framework is correctly integrated.Media archive and content protection
- Own the technical custody of the media archive, including historical game footage and original programming: storage tiering, retention and preservation policy, redundancy, and the migration and cataloguing of legacy assets into the managed environment.
- Own the technical content protection framework, including DRM and key management, watermarking, stream tokenisation and entitlement abuse controls, and the technical relationship with content protection and enforcement vendors, coordinating with Systems & Security Operations and Legal on incident response.
- Minimum 5 years in streaming, OTT or media technology, with direct technical ownership of a live consumer video platform.
- Working knowledge of the streaming stack: live and VOD workflows, encoding and packaging, CDN behaviour, DRM and playback, metadata models, playout and scheduling, subtitling and multi-language audio.
- Experience leading technical platform programmes in a live service environment, including integration design, data and entitlement migration, acceptance testing and cutover.
- Experience with media asset management and automated content generation environments, including metadata models, cataloguing standards and rights metadata.
- Experience with entitlement and access models in subscription environments, including integration with SSO and authorisation logic.
- Experience implementing and validating territorial restrictions and rights-driven availability rules across multiple markets.
- Experience onboarding third-party content and delivering to channel stores, aggregators or partner platforms, including partner technical specifications, licensor content protection requirements and entitlement synchronisation.
- Familiarity with media archive practice (storage tiering, preservation and format obsolescence) and with content protection in live streaming (DRM, watermarking and entitlement abuse controls).
- Proven vendor governance experience: technical evaluation, SLA management, release and roadmap alignment, and structured performance review.
- Operations mindset, with the ability to design and run incident management protocols, classify severity and drive resolution to closure.
- Strong documentation discipline, able to define technical requirements clearly and to review what vendors deliver against them rather than accepting it.
- Able to operate without a team beneath them and to influence technical, editorial, commercial and club stakeholders; experience in sports, media or subscription-led environments is advantageous.
- Fluent in English; Spanish and additional European languages are a plus.
- Holds EU nationality and/or a valid residency/work permit for Spain.
- Occasional availability to support critical incidents during game nights
