About the role
AWSGCPAzureNetworking
Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.
We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.
We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.
If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.
About the Role:
Every model Crusoe trains, every cluster we bring online, depends on data moving at the speed AI workloads demand and that starts with the network underneath it. We're building a storage network engineered specifically for that job: a dedicated plane running on RDMA, purpose-built for the lossless, low-latency performance our storage infrastructure requires, distinct from the general compute network that powers everything else.
We're hiring a Staff Network Engineer to architect and own this network end to end, from spine to leaf. This isn't a maintenance role it's a chance to design the backbone of Crusoe's storage infrastructure from the ground up, set the standard for how it runs, and be the deep technical authority the rest of the organization leans on as we scale. You'll carry full ownership of a system that's foundational to everything we build next.
What You'll Be Working On:
- Architect and operate the storage network end to end — spine to leaf — making the core design calls that shape how Crusoe's storage infrastructure performs at scale.
- Be the first and deepest line of defense when a cluster's fabric isn't behaving — tracing packets through the switch pipeline, reading per-switch configuration, and finding root cause fast, under real production pressure.
- Go beyond the switch layer when you need to — down into the OS network stack, NIC drivers, and the software layer that sits on top, because the best engineers in this space don't stop at the hardware.
- Build the automation and tooling that lets this network run itself — so debugging, monitoring, and operating at scale becomes a system, not a scramble.
- Partner closely with our SDN and Network Edge teams, bringing software-defined thinking into a space that's historically been run by hand.
- Become the connective layer between two domains that have never had a dedicated bridge before — translating network reality into storage context, and storage needs into network architecture.
What You'll Bring to the Team:
- Real, battle-tested L2/L3 networking experience — you've run production switches under production pressure, not just studied them.
- The scripting and debugging instincts to chase a problem all the way down to the TCP/IP level, because that's where the real answers usually live.
- A sense of ownership strong enough that being the one who gets paged doesn't faze you — you want to be the person who solves it end to end, not the person who escalates it.
- The communication range to operate as a translator between two technical worlds, making complex network realities legible to people who don't live in them every day.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Bonus Points
- Spine-layer switch expertise — the rarest and most valuable piece of this puzzle, and the single skill that would let you hit the ground running on day one.
- Hands-on experience with RDMA, RoCEv2, DCQCN/PFC, or similar lossless, low-latency technologies — the exact fabric this role is built around.
- A software-defined networking mindset — you think in systems and automation, not just cables and configs.
- Comfort reasoning about the client side of the network too — OS stack behavior, NIC drivers, how software actually experiences the network you're building.
- Exposure to storage protocols like NFS — useful context, though not something we expect you to already know cold.
- A background at a storage-infrastructure company, or deep hands-on switch experience from a hyperscale/cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP) — either path has likely put you exactly where this role needs you to be.
