Customer Support
Title: Librarian
Status: Part-time, hourly, 20 hours a week
Purpose: To oversee the Calvary Church Library as an effective ministry resource that supports the church family’s spiritual growth, discipleship, and education, equipping them to pursue life in Christ.
Working Relationship: Accountable to the Executive Pastor of Ministries with direct supervision by the Adult Ministries Assistant. A member of Ministry Support Staff and appropriate ministry or cross functioning teams as assigned.
One Sentence Job Description: Lead a comprehensive library ministry that equips the entire church family with new and relevant materials that enables them to pursue life in Christ.
Qualifications:
- Church ministry and library related experience, preferred Library Degree, but not required
- Affirmation of the doctrinal statement, vision and ministry philosophy of Calvary Church
- Displays spirit of cooperation and willingness to serve on a team
- Must be convinced of the value of the church library, recognizing it as a spiritual ministry
- Has a working knowledge of the Christian book market, and ability to select books and resources with spiritual discernment
Values and Beliefs:
- Must be a professing Christian who affirms the Calvary Church doctrinal basis, vision and values and philosophy of ministry
- Must regularly attend Calvary Church

- Administrative abilities with an attention to details
- Ability to respond to questions and inquiries appropriately with a heart for customer service
- Ability to work with the different generations and a desire to minister to each person who walks in the door
- Familiarity with basic technology including library management software
Responsibilities:
Primary Area
- Review, research, and select new library materials—including books, digital media, and subscriptions—based on church needs, collection goals, and budget
- Develop, manage, and monitor the annual budgets for both the physical and digital libraries.
- Organize and maintain accurate records of all library materials by classifying, labeling, and entering them into the library’s management system.
- Oversee a team of library volunteers by providing training, support, and supervision in the use of library management software, book processing, and related duties.
- Manage the weekly library schedule and ensure appropriate volunteer coverage and competency.
- Maintain the overall quality and organization of the library and resource center, including ordering supplies, conducting annual inventories, and handling overdue items
- Provide direct support to the Small Group Ministry and Children’s Ministry Reading Program, ensuring timely access to appropriate materials and resources.
- Coordinate with other areas of ministry to assess and fulfill resource needs across the church
- Participate in scheduled Calvary Church staff meetings and collaborate with ministry leaders to support the broader mission of the church.
- Plan and oversee the annual book sale, including team coordination, preparation, and event management.
- Coordinate special library events such as the summer reading program and other seasonal initiatives.
Work Schedule and Time Allotment:
- This is a part-time position requiring flexibility to accommodate church programs, seasonal ministry demands, and special events.
- The Librarian is generally scheduled Sunday through Thursday during Library operating hours and may occasionally attend special events. Remaining hours may be scheduled flexibly around required staff meetings and other staff events. Volunteers may cover Library operating hours when the Librarian attends a church service or event, or at other times approved by the supervisor
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Light physical work requirements (lifting 15-25 lbs), sitting, prolonged standing, frequent reaching, climbing, prolonged positioning under hot bright lights, occasionally outside in differing weather conditions and prolonged looking at monitors and computer screens and operating a mouse and keyboard.
- Creative thinking, conceptual, collaborative, and listening skills. Must be able to present ideas and allow for adoption, adaptation, or elimination of those ideas.
