This role sits within our 2nd Line of Defence, executing and maintaining the compliance monitoring program, firm-wide policies, and regulatory oversight across both our Electronic Money Institution (EMI) and Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) operations. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring adherence with MFSA regulations, MiCA standards, and payment services rules - overseeing client asset safeguarding and conduct of business requirements. Your primary focus will be Malta, but, as part of a global team, you will get the opportunity to support other regions and company-wide initiatives. Key Areas of Responsibility: - Draft and coordinate responses, regulatory notifications, thematic review submissions and gap analyses for submission to the Regulators (MFSA and CBM). - Conduct ongoing regulatory horizon scanning across EMI and MiCA/CASP frameworks, keeping product, operations, and key stakeholders informed while ensuring timely operational compliance. - Maintain the master regulatory compliance calendar to track and monitor all mandatory filings, statutory deadlines, and regulatory queries. - Assist in drafting compliance reports and presentation decks for the Board of Directors, Internal Controls Committee (ICC), and the MFSA. - Assist policy owners across the business in drafting, updating, and reviewing firm-wide compliance policies and procedures in alignment with new regulations, while overseeing policy review schedules. - Oversee the execution of the Annual Compliance Monitoring/Testing Plan and track remediation plans. - Log, investigate, and assess regulatory breaches, evaluating notification thresholds under regulatory frameworks such as DORA. - Perform compliance impact assessments on new product offerings, features, and operational changes. - Conduct token risk assessments and maintain compliance reviews for crypto assets in alignment with MiCA expectations. - Manage and maintain the firm's Insider Register and process Personal Account Trading (PAT) requests to prevent market abuse. - Serve as the designated compliance approver for all marketing collateral, financial promotions, and promotional communications across fiat and crypto channels for regulatory compliance. - Oversee the 2LoD review of consumer complaints handling processes, assist with complex escalations, and perform root-cause analysis. - Assist in monitoring capital adequacy requirements and the subsequent regulatory notifications and submissions - Collaborate with IT and Operations to ensure compliance with operational resilience frameworks, business continuity plans (BCP), and third-party outsourcing requirements. - Develop, deliver, and update compliance training materials for general staff and new joiners, while maintaining accurate logs of training completed by the Board and Key Function Holders. - Act as a primary regulatory compliance Subject Matter Expert (SME) for internal teams on day-to-day regulatory compliance inquiries. What we need from you: - Experience: Relevant experience in a similar compliance role within financial services (preferably in a fintech or crypto firm) - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business or a related discipline - Knowledge: Working knowledge of the MFSA Financial and CASP Rules and Handbooks, EMD, PSD2 (and awareness of PSD3/PSR transitional provisions), and demonstrated capacity to rapidly master new regulatory frameworks.
