OUR WORK The Public Interest Technology (PIT) Crew, at the NYC Office of Technology and Innovation, builds the technology, products, and services needed to deliver a more affordable New York City. We design, build, and launch exceptional public-facing products for New Yorkers. Job Description We are hiring a PIT Crew Executive Director of Product & Design to build and shape the direction of the PIT Crew. This is a hands-on executive director position. You will work to drive clarity and action in ambiguity; pair closely with designers, engineers, product managers, user researchers, policy experts, and other city employees to help the team move from problem statements to working products and services for New Yorkers; define and lead the product management and design practice for the PIT Crew and enable the team to do exceptional product and design work; serve as an expert in your craft; and be comfortable diving into unblock work however the situation demands - including individual contributor work. In addition to enabling a suite of short-term projects, you will help determine PIT Crew’s long-term direction; synthesize strategy with an eye towards building long-term momentum; advise on team structure and hiring practices; and build a culture of delivering rapidly and responsibly for New Yorkers. Responsibilities will include but not limited to: - Build and lead a high-performing team focused on delivering measurable impact for New Yorkers. - Establish modern best practices for your discipline and promote adoption. - Manage and mentor talent effectively to ensure their time serving the City of New York is positive and meaningful. - Foster a culture of speed, quality, pragmatism, and public service. - Own and drive the team's high-level roadmap. Identify and scope new projects. Manage project allocation and staffing. - Ensure product launches are successful and deliver measurable impact for New Yorkers. Ensure all delivered products meet high standards of usability, accessibility, security and privacy. - Collaborate and drive alignment across a wide range of stakeholders, including within the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI), City Hall, other City agencies, and external partners; - Oversee special projects and initiatives as assigned. HOURS/SHIFT Day - Due to the necessary management duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to be on call and/or work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.
