Lead the Data Behind Hamilton’s Biggest Investments
Are you a people-focused leader with a passion for turning data into meaningful insights? Join Hamilton City Council as our Portfolio Office Data, Systems & Reporting Team Lead, where you'll lead a team of specialists responsible for portfolio, programme and financial reporting that supports some of the city's most significant infrastructure and capital investment decisions. This is a unique opportunity to combine leadership, analytics and strategic thinking while helping shape the future of Hamilton.
Reporting to the Head of Portfolio Office, you'll drive the quality, integrity and use of portfolio data, champion continuous improvement, and provide leaders and governance groups with clear, actionable insights that enable confident decision-making. What you'll be doing:
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of reporting and data specialists
- Oversee portfolio, programme and capital financial data management through Psoda
- Deliver meaningful reporting, analytics and data visualisations for leaders and governance groups
- Support investment planning and Long Term Plan decision-making through quality insights
- Drive continuous improvement across systems, reporting and portfolio controls
- Set priorities, remove barriers and foster a positive, high-performing team culture
- Ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders and teams both internally and externallyWhat you'll bring:
- Proven experience leading and developing successful teams
- Strong background in data, reporting, analytics, business intelligence or a related field
- Ability to translate complex data into clear and actionable insights
- Experience working with portfolio, programme or financial reporting environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience
- Tertiary degree in Management, business, software engineering or accounting.
- 5+ years' experience in a leadership role
- 5+ years’ experience in product ownership for project or programme (PPM) management toolsets.
- Demonstrated experience in system stewardship, including configuration, workflow design, enhancements, integrations, and user support and training.
- Strong analytical capability, including managing, processing, and analysing large and complex datasets (including multi-year financial datasets)
- Understanding of data architecture, modelling and data governance principles. Data Systems and Reporting Lead
- Experience of performing data validation reconciliation and variance analysis.
- Advanced Excel/Power BI/data analysis capability.
- Meeting facilitation skills.
- Demonstrates clear and confident communication, strong interpersonal capability, and a high level of energy and drive to achieve outcomes
- Local government experience preferred
- Financial management experience
- Quality management experience
