Make a Difference in the Lives of Children, Youth, and Families
IDM Youth Services is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly skilled Behavioural Therapist to support children, youth, and families experiencing behavioural, developmental, attachment, trauma-related, mental health, emotional regulation, and complex support needs.
Working within a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, strengths-based, and child-centered framework, you will provide behavioural assessment, intervention planning, consultation, training, and support services while collaborating with families, caregivers, community partners, Indigenous communities, schools, healthcare providers, and Ministry representatives to promote positive outcomes, skill development, stability, and community integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct functional behavioural assessments and identify factors contributing to behavioural challenges.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and update individualized Behaviour Support Plans, intervention strategies, and crisis response plans.
- Support children and youth in developing emotional regulation, communication, coping, social, and life skills.
- Provide behavioural consultation and coaching to families, caregivers, frontline staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Assist in identifying behavioural triggers, replacement skills, preventative strategies, and effective support approaches.
- Participate in service planning, case conferences, behavioural reviews, transition planning, and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Deliver education and training related to positive behaviour support, trauma-informed practice, de-escalation strategies, and behavioural intervention techniques.
- Support crisis prevention planning and provide behavioural expertise during complex situations.
- Monitor behavioural outcomes, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and recommend adjustments as required.
- Maintain accurate and timely behavioural assessments, reports, consultation records, and service documentation.
- Build strong relationships with community partners and advocate for the needs of children, youth, and families.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Education, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or a related human services discipline.
- Registration and good standing with a recognized professional body where applicable.
- Preference will be given to candidates holding credentials such as:
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
- Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA-BC)
- Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
- Registered Social Worker (RSW)
- Or equivalent professional designation
- Minimum two (2) years' recent related experience providing behavioural assessment, consultation, intervention planning, and support services for children, youth, and families.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, trauma-related challenges, neurodiversity, and complex behavioural needs is considered an asset.
- Experience in residential care, child welfare, youth services, education, healthcare, or community-based programs is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Successful Criminal Record Check.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to positive behaviour support, trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, inclusion, and evidence-informed service delivery. Experience coaching staff and caregivers and supporting complex youth in residential and community settings is highly desirable.
Working Conditions
This is a part-time or full-time position serving youth and families across residential and community-based programs. Occasional evening, weekend, on-call, and regional travel requirements may apply.
This position requires union membership.

Compensation
Grid 16-P (Paraprofessional)
$47.26 - $57.84 per hour
Placement on the wage grid will be determined in accordance with the applicable Collective Agreement and recognized qualifications and experience.
This last compensation statement is important because it avoids creating the impression that a candidate with significant experience will automatically start at Step 1, while remaining fully compliant with the collective agreement.
