Job Title: Lab Technician – Standards Production & Product Testing Department: Lab Services Reports To: Director of Laboratory Location: Pullman, Washington Hourly Rate: $20 - $24 per hour Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Position Summary This hybrid role splits time evenly between standards production and laboratory testing. In production, the technician is the secondary operator in manufacturing, helping prepare solutions, produce calibration bottles, and maintain equipment. In the lab, the technician tests new development and DFM changes to hardware, software, and firmware before implementation, backs up Lab Services, and performs standards lot validation for traceability. Key Responsibilities Standards Production (~50%) - Serve as secondary operator for the standards lab, covering production when the primary technician is absent. - Safely mix and handle large tanks of solution and meet quality specifications. - Safely operate the tubing machine to produce reference standard products per SOPs. - Produce calibration bottles for production. - Maintain and repair the tubing machine, tanks, and other standards-area equipment. - Keep the area clean to prevent contamination and record batch and maintenance data accurately. Standards Production (~50%) - Serve as secondary operator for the standards lab, covering production when the primary technician is absent. - Safely mix and handle large tanks of solution and meet quality specifications. - Safely operate the tubing machine to produce reference standard products per SOPs. - Produce calibration bottles for production. - Maintain and repair the tubing machine, tanks, and other standards-area equipment. - Keep the area clean to prevent contamination and record batch and maintenance data accurately Qualifications Required: - Associate's or bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, food science, engineering technology, or a related field preferred. - 1–3 years of laboratory or production experience preferred; internships or academic lab experience acceptable. - Basic knowledge of lab procedures, instrumentation, and data collection. - Strong attention to detail and accurate, traceable recordkeeping. - Ability to follow SOPs, test protocols, and quality standards. - Mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance and repair. - Strong organization, communication, and teamwork; able to shift between production and testing priorities. - Proficiency in Google Sheets and Docs Preferred: - Familiarity with water activity measurement or instrument testing against acceptance criteria. - Experience with Jira or similar tracking tools and basic spreadsheet statistics Physical Requirements & Work Environment - Lift 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation. - Sit and stand for extended periods. - Safely handle large volumes of solution and wear required PPE.
