The Role:
Generate:Biomedicines is seeking a Scientist I with a strong background in immunology, particularly T cell immunobiology, and hands-on expertise working with human primary immune cells to support the development of protein-based therapeutics for immune-mediated diseases. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, this individual will independently plan and execute in vitro experiments, analyze and interpret results, and generate robust data packages that inform project decisions and pipeline progression. This highly laboratory-focused role offers the opportunity to apply mechanistic immunology to the development of AI-enabled biologic therapeutics. While the core activities will focus on immunology, a curious scientist eager to broaden their experience in drug discovery and development will have opportunities to contribute to other therapeutic areas.
Here's how you will contribute:
· Design, execute, and troubleshoot cell-based assays using human primary peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), purified T cells, and other relevant immune-cell populations to characterize the activity and mechanism of action of Generate’s protein therapeutics
· Develop and optimize T cell functional assays and co-culture systems to assess activation, proliferation, differentiation, cytokine production, and immune regulation
· Apply high-parameter flow cytometry, quantitative immunoassays, and molecular biology and biochemistry techniques to characterize immune-cell phenotypes and functional responses
· Plan experiments with appropriate controls and consideration of donor variability, and analyze and interpret reproducible data to support project decisions
· Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Automation, Computational Sciences, Protein Sciences, and High-Throughput Screening to advance shared project goals
· Maintain complete and accurate experimental records, present findings and recommendations to project teams, and stay current with relevant advances in immunology and biologics research
The Ideal Candidate will have:
· Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology, or a related field; or a master’s degree in a related field with six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with eight years of relevant experience; or eleven years of relevant experience
· Strong understanding of T cell immunobiology, including activation, differentiation, effector functions, and mechanisms of immune regulation
· Hands-on expertise in human primary immune-cell isolation, culture, and stimulation, including PBMCs and purified T cells, together with proficiency in mammalian cell-line culture, aseptic technique, and cell quality control
· Experience with multicolor, high-parameter flow cytometry, including panel design and optimization, staining, appropriate controls, data acquisition, and analysis
· Experience with quantitative immunoassays for cytokines and other proteins, such as ELISA, AlphaLISA, or Meso Scale Discovery (MSD) assays
· Proficiency in general molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, such as PCR/qPCR, molecular cloning, and Western blotting
· Experience developing, optimizing, or validating cell-based functional assays involving antibodies or other functional proteins
· Ability to independently troubleshoot experiments, analyze quantitative data, and draw scientifically sound conclusions within a multidisciplinary project team
Preferred Qualifications:
· Industry experience in biologics discovery or development, particularly for inflammatory or autoimmune diseases
· Experience with additional human primary immune-cell populations, such as B cells, monocytes, macrophages, or dendritic cells, or with patient-derived samples
· Experience with high-throughput screening, laboratory automation, cell line engineering, or in vivo models relevant to immunology or immuno-oncology
Who Will Love This Job:
· Scientific curiosity and rigor; the ability to solve moderately complex experimental problems with sound judgment; clear written and verbal communication; and a collaborative, flexible approach in a fast-paced environment.
About Generate Biomedicines
We are a clinical-stage generative biology company pioneering the AI revolution in drug design and development. We are advancing a new approach to drug creation—one grounded in the ability to design proteins with defined biological intent. By integrating machine learning with large-scale experimentation, this approach aims to reduce the uncertainty, time, and cost associated with developing protein-based medicines.
Founded in 2018, we are advancing a growing pipeline of clinical and preclinical programs across multiple disease areas and protein modalities. By unifying computational design and clinical development within a single operating model, we translate this approach into clinical-stage programs and are leading a shift from traditional drug discovery toward systematic drug generation.
At Generate:Biomedicines, we collaborate across disciplines in new ways to invent and innovate. We bring diverse perspectives to a shared goal of delivering better medicines to patients in need, faster, guided by our values and leadership behaviors.
Generate:Biomedicines is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.
Recruitment & Staffing Agencies: Generate:Biomedicines does not accept unsolicited resumes from any source other than candidates.
