We are currently recruiting a Project Manager – Northeast Syria to join our Programs team.
This is a country-based position in Deir ez Zor, Syria, with regular field visits across project locations in Deir ez Zor and Al-Hasakeh governorates, including approximately 25% travel to Al-Hasakeh.

About the Opportunity
The Project Manager will oversee Relief International's programme portfolio in Deir ez Zor and Al-Hasakeh governorates, ensuring projects are implemented effectively, safely and in compliance with donor and organizational requirements. The role is responsible for the planning, delivery, monitoring and adaptation of projects, ensuring high-quality implementation, strong stakeholder coordination and effective management of resources.
Working in one of the most complex humanitarian environments in the region, you will coordinate closely with technical teams, support departments, partners and local stakeholders to ensure projects achieve their objectives on time and within budget. You will provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams while navigating operational challenges, evolving security dynamics and changing humanitarian needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced humanitarian project manager looking to take ownership of a diverse programme portfolio and contribute to impactful humanitarian action in Northeast Syria.
Your Responsibilities
This role includes the following responsibilities.
- Lead project planning, implementation and monitoring to ensure programmes are delivered on time, within budget and in compliance with donor and organizational requirements.
- Oversee programme and budget performance, ensuring effective use of resources and timely resolution of operational or financial challenges.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress, engage with staff and partners, identify risks and support adaptive programme management.
- Ensure high-quality donor reporting, project documentation and project management systems are maintained and updated.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, partners, donors and coordination bodies, representing Relief International in relevant forums.
- Mentor and supervise programme teams, strengthening capacity in project management, compliance, reporting and accountability.
- Support proposal development, programme design and strategic planning processes for future programming opportunities.
- Ensure risk management, safeguarding and safety considerations are integrated across all project activities.
About You
You will bring the following experience and skills.
- Bachelor's degree in International Development, Project Management, Business Administration or another relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience managing humanitarian or development projects, including implementation oversight, budget management, reporting and stakeholder coordination.
- Experience managing and supporting teams in complex operational environments.
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and relationship-management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience working with donor-funded programmes and understanding of donor compliance requirements. Experience with SHF/OCHA, ECHO and US Government-funded projects is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of one or more sectors such as Health, Protection or other areas relevant to Relief International's programming.
- Professional fluency in English is essential. Arabic language skills are highly desirable.
- Experience working in Northeast Syria or a comparable humanitarian context would be a significant advantage.
