This is an entry-level, field-based role suited to someone looking to start or grow a career in land surveying — prior experience is helpful but not required. You'll learn hands-on how to run modern survey equipment while supporting boundary, topographic, right-of-way, utility, and construction surveys. What You'll Get to Do - Assist field crews with topographic, boundary, right-of-way, utility, and construction surveys across the New York/New Jersey area. - Support GPS/GNSS control surveys using RTK systems. - Support topographic surveys using robotic total station equipment. - Assist with utility investigation and locating. - Hold rod, set stakes and markers, and help maintain survey control points in the field. - Record and organize field notes under the direction of the Party Chief. - Help maintain, transport, and care for field equipment. - Support construction staking activities as assigned. - Travel to job sites throughout New York and New Jersey; occasional overnight travel may be required. - Learn survey data collection procedures and company quality control practices on the job. Who You Are Required - High school diploma or equivalent. - Prior surveying experience is helpful but not necessary — we'll train the right candidate. - Willingness to learn field survey equipment, including total stations and GPS/GNSS systems. - Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions. - Valid driver's license with ability to travel throughout New York and New Jersey. - Reliable, punctual, and able to follow direction as part of a field crew. Preferred - Coursework or education in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field. - Some exposure to total station, GPS/GNSS, or utility investigation work. - Interest in pursuing Survey-in-Training (SIT) certification or a long-term surveying career path. What's in It for You Annual Paid Time Off: - Sick Leave: 5 Days (40 Hours) - Vacation: 15 Days (120 Hours) - Holidays: 11 Federal Holidays (88 Hours) observed in accordance with mcfa's Holiday Schedule "mcfa way" Bonus Program: - Following your first full quarter worked, you will qualify for a profit-share bonus that is distributed at the end of each quarter if company targets are hit. - Incoming Growth Units: 10 - Growth Unit allotment may increase over time. Healthcare & Insurance: - Eligible to participate in mcfa's family medical, dental and vision coverage; plan access begins on the first day of employment. - mcfa contributes up to 75% shared cost, not to exceed $700 per month. - Company paid life insurance plan (up to $100,000 per employee). - Company paid short-term and long-term disability insurance.
