๐Ÿงก About Alma At Alma, we believe sustainable commerce depends on fair, well-balanced trade. Because finance plays a pivotal role in business, our mission is to put it back in its rightful place โ€” serving merchants and consumers. Our installment and deferred payment solutions help merchants boost sales by 20% or more, increase customer loyalty, and deliver a seamless shopping experience โ€” without encouraging bad debt. As the buy now pay later leader in France and active in 10 European countries, we've empowered over +25,000 merchants and 10 million consumers. With 380+ Almakers and โ‚ฌ100M+ ARR in 2025, Alma is scaling rapidly across Europe as a member of the Next40, and we're just getting started! ๐Ÿ‘ About the team Alma is a lender. We originate several million consumer receivables a year, carry them for a few weeks, and refinance them off a deliberately light balance sheet through securitization vehicles (Fonds Communs de Titrisation) and our other funding lines. We are regulated as a sociรฉtรฉ de financement and a payment institution. That changes what "accounting" means here. A lender's accounts are not a monthly deliverable produced at the end of a chain: they are the chain. Every payment event, every commission, every provision, every sale of receivables to an FCT has to become a journal entry that ties โ€” to the transaction underneath it, to the general ledger above it, and to the prudential statements the regulator reads. At our scale and growth, this is a strategic topic, and one that is as much about data as it is about accounting. Today the chain exists: an internal core banking ledger we built ourselves, feeding NetSuite, feeding regulatory reporting. What it does not have is a single owner who understands it end-to-end, holds it to the standard a regulated lender needs, and evolves it as the business changes (geographies, products, licenses). That is the role we are opening. You will join an Accounting team inside a Finance organization of ~15 people covering Strategic Financing, FP&A, Accounting, Regulatory reporting and Controlling. You will report to the Head of Financing & Accounting, alongside the Financing team and the General Accounting Manager, who oversees corporate cycles, tax, statutory and consolidated accounts. This is a role with unusual ownership for its level: the banking accounting scope is yours from day one, and so is the data chain that produces it. ๐Ÿ’ผ About the job Own the accounting of the credit business: - Own how the portfolio is represented in the books: origination, revenue recognition on merchant and customer commissions, deferred income, write-offs and recoveries, cost of risk and provisioning on performing and non-performing exposures. - Own the accounting of our securitizations: sales of receivables to the FCTs, derecognition, discount and over-collateralisation, residual interests, servicing and management fees, hedging. - Own the accounting of our funding: corporate debt, commercial paper, and the new funding instruments we add as the refinancing strategy evolves. Own the core banking ledger: - Be the functional owner of the engine that turns business events into accounting: which event, which account, which currency, which date, which counterparty. - Specify and validate the accounting schemes for every new product, partner and geography, and work with Engineering and Data on the ledger's model, its feed into the ERP, and the fixes when something drifts. - Own the audit trail end-to-end โ€” from a single โ‚ฌ40 installment to a line in a prudential statement โ€” and make it documented enough to be walked through by someone whose job is to challenge it. Reinforce the control framework: - Design and automate the reconciliations that hold the whole thing together: ledger โ†” general ledger โ†” bank โ†” FCT reporting โ†” prudential statements. - Shorten monthly close, incl. turning a manual, end-of-month, spreadsheet-based check into an automated, evidenced, repeatable control. - Be Finance's counterpart to Internal Control and Periodic Control on everything accounting-data related. Own regulatory reporting: - Own the production and the quality of our prudential and statistical reporting โ€” solvency, large exposures, liquidity, and the statistical returns that go with them. - Own the reconciliation tables that matter most: prudential statements to accounting balances, regulatory returns to the trial balance, own funds and RWA back to their audit trail. - Own the reporting tooling and its data feeds, and work with the Regulatory and Financing teams on the evolutions of the prudential framework and on the treatment of our securitizations. ๐Ÿงฉ About you To succeed in this job: - You have around 6-7 years of experience, ideally starting in audit of financial services โ€” banks, consumer credit, asset management, securitization โ€” in a Big 4 or a specialised practice, possibly with a first move in-house. You know how to build a number, prove it, and defend it line by line in front of people whose job is to challenge it. - You know banking accounting for real: French banking GAAP, the PCEC, cost of risk, revenue recognition on credit products. Or you know financial services accounting well enough that the banking layer is a matter of months, not years. - You actually enjoy controls at scale โ€” reconciling large populations, hunting the anomaly, chasing the last twelve euros of a four-hundred-million balance until you know exactly where they went. If that sounds tedious rather than satisfying, this is not your role. - You are autonomous and scrappy. On things to build, or on things that already exist. - You are fluent in English and French โ€” our documentation and our regulator are French, part of our business and our team are not. And it will be nice if you also: - Hold, or are working towards, the DEC (or CPA, ACCA, equivalent). - Have been exposed to securitization โ€” FCTs, SPVs, waterfalls, deconsolidation โ€” or to a regulated credit institution from the inside. - You are autonomous on data. SQL is a daily tool, a data warehouse does not intimidate you, and your reflex in front of a five-million-row population is to query it, not to ask someone for a summary. This is the single most important line in this job description. - Know NetSuite, BigQuery, dbt or Python. - Have worked in a scaling fintech. Don't meet every single requirement? At Alma, we believe great hires come from diverse paths. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply. We value potential, curiosity and the ability to grow as much as experience. ๐Ÿค‘ Compensation & Benefits - Competitive salary based on 12 months - Profit-sharing and employee savings plan - Health insurance: 100% covered by Alma including family package - Disability insurance: 100% covered by Alma - Sport: partnerships with Gymlib and Classpass, or โ‚ฌ30/month reimbursement for your sports activities - Maternity/paternity leave: salary maintained at 100% during leave with no seniority requirement. Return to work at 4/5 schedule paid at 100% for 8 weeks. - Sustainable Mobility Package (FMD): โ‚ฌ544.80/year (excluding full-remote contracts) - Meal vouchers: โ‚ฌ10/day, 50% covered by Alma - Mental health: free access to MindDay platform - Paid time off: 25 days/year (+ additional paid leave granted for employees on executive contracts) - Access to our Learning & Development Platform - 2 weeks of full remote possible per year in summer ๐ŸŽฏ Interview Process - Video call with a Talent Acquisition team member to understand your path, motivation & present you the role. - Video call with Thibaut Mercier, Head of Financing, Regulatory Capital Optimization & Accounting - Business case - Video call with Stephanie Combe, CFO ๐ŸŒ Diversity & Inclusion At Alma, we believe that diversity fuels innovation and makes our community stronger. We are committed to building a workplace where every person feels seen, respected, and empowered to do their best work whatever their gender, background, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, religion, disability or lived experience. As an equal opportunity employer, we welcome applicants from all walks of life, and all employment decisions are made based on qualifications, merit, and business needs.
