Software Delivery Manager
We are looking for a driven and technically fluent Software Delivery Manager to lead software delivery teams on client engagements. Operating at Manager level, you will take day-to-day ownership of project delivery, team coordination, and client communication. You will work closely with Senior Delivery Managers, Architects, and engineering leads to ensure high-quality, iterative delivery of software solutions. The Software Delivery Manager operates within an overall programme context, with strategic and commercial accountability retained by the Senior Software Delivery Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Owns day-to-day delivery execution within agreed programme constraints.
- Lead day-to-day delivery of software projects and workstreams, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, quality, and budget.
- Manage cross-functional delivery teams of engineers, testers, and business analysts, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
- Plan and manage sprints, releases, and programme increments using Agile and Scrum practices.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for client project teams, building strong working relationships and trust.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate delivery risks and issues, escalating appropriately to Senior Delivery Managers and/or Programme Lead.
- Prepare and present regular project status reports, dashboards, and governance packs to internal and client stakeholders.
- Support commercial activities including change request management, time tracking, and budget monitoring.
- Collaborate with Software Architects and technical leads to ensure solutions are delivered to agreed quality standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of delivery practices, tooling, and team processes.
- Support the onboarding, coaching, and development of junior team members.
- Ensure Agile principles and processes are applied appropriately across teams.
- Translate technical risks, constraints, and issues into clear language for stakeholders.
- Work with the Technical Lead and QA Lead to understand technical blockers, architectural considerations, and quality risks, ensuring these are represented in delivery planning.
- Coordinate with Team Leads / Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Technical Lead, and QA Lead to align delivery with technical and quality objectives.
- Consolidate delivery status and provide reporting to the Programme Lead and stakeholders.
- Act as the point of contact for Team Leads / Scrum Masters, ensuring their escalations are addressed and teams remain unblocked.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across teams, focusing on delivery efficiency and predictability.
- Release Management – coordinate both internal and external activities to ensure all prerequisites are met in a timely manner, appropriate resources are in place, and all relevant communications are provided.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- 10+ years of experience in software delivery, project management, or a related technical discipline.
- Solid experience delivering software projects using Agile/Scrum methodologies in a professional services or product environment.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), DevOps principles, and modern engineering practices.
- Proven ability to manage client relationships effectively and communicate clearly at various levels of seniority.
- Experience using delivery and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and drive delivery in ambiguous or fast-paced environments.
Desirable:
- Experience working in a management consultancy or systems integrator environment.
- Relevant certifications: PSM, PRINCE2, AgilePM, PMP, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with cloud-native delivery in any of the following AWS, Azure or GCP and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to scaled delivery frameworks such as SAFe or LeSS.
- Degree in technical discipline (Software engineering etc)
