Team Lead, Land Development (Subdivisions) based in Ottawa, Ontario is responsible for leading and growing the subdivisions practice within the Land Development team. The role provides strategic, technical and operational leadership while ensuring successful project delivery, team performance, client satisfaction and financial results.
The position oversees subdivision projects through the full development lifecycle, from feasibility studies and conceptual planning through detailed engineering, construction administration and final acceptance. The role serves as a primary client contact for developers, municipalities and regulatory agencies, supports business development initiatives, drives practice growth and promotes technical excellence across subdivision projects.
The ideal candidate brings significant land development and subdivision experience, demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams and expertise in subdivision approvals, municipal standards and development agreements. Professional registration with a recognized Ontario regulatory body is required, while experience within the Greater Ottawa Area and related servicing agreements is considered an asset.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the subdivisions team, including engineering, planning, design and project management professionals.
- Establish performance expectations, objectives and standards aligned with organizational goals.
- Oversee subdivision projects from feasibility and conceptual design through construction administration and final acceptance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for developers, municipalities and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure projects meet client objectives, regulatory requirements and community needs.
- Drive business development activities and support growth of the subdivisions practice.
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance and succession planning support for team members.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and retention of key personnel within the practice area.
- Manage financial performance, including revenue, profitability, utilization and project financial health.
- Strengthen industry presence and develop client relationships to expand existing and new business opportunities.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or
- Registered Professional Planner (R.P.P.) registered with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), or
- Registered Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) registered with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
- 15 years of progressive land development and subdivision experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing subdivision developments from conceptual design through construction and municipal acceptance.
- Strong knowledge of subdivision approval processes, municipal engineering standards, development agreements and assumption requirements.
- Proven experience managing project budgets, financial performance, resource allocation and client relationships.
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary coordination requirements supporting rural and urban developments.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a registered and insured vehicle.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Assets
- Graduate degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or a related discipline.
- French language proficiency.
- Experience working within the Greater Ottawa Area.
- Experience with pre-servicing agreements, cost-sharing agreements and front-ending agreements.
