Job Summary
The MHS Project Manager / Senior Manager will be responsible for overseeing the design, submissions, construction, testing and commissioning, and ORAT activities associated with the Material Handling System (MHS) for a major international airport project.
The role will provide senior-level leadership and coordination across the MHS contractor, project team, end users, stakeholders, and other relevant disciplines to ensure that the MHS is delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, specifications, programme, quality standards, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, technical submissions, approvals, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning activities associated with the MHS.
- Manage and monitor the MHS contractor’s performance to ensure compliance with approved designs, contract requirements, project specifications, programme, quality standards, and HSE requirements.
- Provide strategic and technical oversight of all MHS-related construction activities, ensuring effective coordination with other project disciplines and contractors.
- Review and monitor MHS contractor deliverables, including design submissions, method statements, shop drawings, material submissions, inspection requests, testing procedures, commissioning documentation, and as-built information.
- Coordinate and integrate the requirements of end users, airport operators, authorities, and other key stakeholders, ensuring their operational and technical needs are properly addressed.
- Act as a key interface between the MHS contractor, project management team, consultants, airport stakeholders, end users, and other contractors.
- Identify and resolve technical, construction, interface, programme, and operational issues affecting the MHS.
- Oversee Testing & Commissioning (T&C) activities to ensure that the MHS meets the required performance, reliability, safety, and operational criteria.
- Lead and coordinate ORAT (Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition) activities related to the MHS, ensuring operational readiness prior to airport opening and/or commencement of operations.
- Monitor progress against the approved programme and proactively identify potential delays, risks, and critical interface issues.
- Ensure appropriate coordination of MHS works with related airport systems, including baggage handling, building services, ICT, security, civil, architectural, MEP, and other operational systems as applicable.
- Participate in inspections, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, integrated systems testing, commissioning, and operational trials as required.
- Ensure that construction and installation activities are carried out in accordance with approved HSE, quality, environmental, and airport safety requirements.
- Review and contribute to risk assessments, mitigation measures, change management, and technical/commercial issues relating to MHS.
- Organize, chair, and/or attend regularly scheduled project and coordination meetings with the MHS contractor, stakeholders, consultants, and project team.
- Ensure effective follow-up and closeout of actions arising from meetings, inspections, testing, commissioning, and stakeholder reviews.
- Support the project team through handover, completion, documentation, training, operational readiness, and final closeout of the MHS works.
- Provide regular management reporting on MHS progress, risks, issues, interfaces, testing and commissioning, and readiness status.
- Recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience working on large-scale and/or complex construction projects.
- Minimum 10 years of middle/senior management experience on large international airport projects.
- Proven experience managing MHS projects within major international airports, preferably involving complex passenger terminal developments.
- Strong experience in managing specialist contractors, consultants, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary project interfaces.
- Demonstrated experience in testing & commissioning and ORAT for airport systems.
- Strong understanding of airport construction, operational interfaces, systems integration, and project delivery processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, coordination, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve complex technical and interface issues in a high-pressure international project environment.
